May 15th meeting
TO All,
Our monthly meeting is this Wednesday, Topics are “NET Training” This will have role playing examples of many variations of nets and being interactive. Our goal is to have fun and know the different types of nets (formal (closed, or All Calls), informal (Normal Nets, or Gaming Nets), & Round Tables (Tech Nets, informational, or Discussion Nets). We will cover terms, the how to’s, & Q&A’s. We hope everyone feels comfortable to help us with our weekly nets by the end.
2nd Part… Is a brief look at the Field Day event. We need a (Go To Person) or a (Go To Group). Field Day in briefest summary is… The biggest ham event that happens annually. This year is on June 22-23 weekend that is a Get-On-The-Air Event in a 24 hour period and is open to all. We only charge people if they want a rib dinner made by one of our members for his expenses. We do many side activities including non-alcoholic refreshments and snacks donated by members. Most of our event is already setup.

12/97 members have finished our club’s survey This is not tracking any emails. We are trying to improve RARC by using this survey. We will be closing this survey Wednesday before the meeting. We are going to review the greatresponses at the meeting. CLICK HERE!
May 22nd @ 7pm… 4th Wednesday is our Informal Gathering having 12 chairs set together at Perkins (494 & France Ave.) The 1st person arrives needs to make the setup. We ask everyone orders a menu item. Perkins doesn’t have any advance reservations, but will setup for 12 people anytime. Please use RARC “Rock!” when reserving a space so people can find us!Family’s are welcome, Next month we might change locations.
May 25th… Get-On-The-Air needs a new location, or change to June 1st, but we will need someone to take lead.
Finally remember every club meeting we will try to revisita Basic Ham Radio related topic that we might have forgotten or was not in the test, Help with your Radio Programming Questions, and an Emergency Preparedness minute.

A couple updates & events…
Our Bylaws & Constitution was passed and will be updated to the web soon.
Still need more people to take our survey nets dates might change based on 6 members responses.
Richfield Historical Society still needs help with spring clean-up & boardwalk building April 27 starting at 9am. (6901 Lyndale Ave.) Please call 612-968-8074. (The Historical Society hosts our 1st permanent club station.)
We will meet at Perkins (4201 W 78th St, Bloomington) April 24th 7pm for a very informal gathering for all. We will setup for 12 people to sit together. We ask people to order a food or a drink item, & RARC will not be paying for anyone’s orders. We have no advance reservations, but ask for “RARC (Rock)” when entering to find us.
MAY 15th next meeting… “Net Training and Pre-Field Day planning.” We need a Chairperson or Co-chairs for FD…
Next “Get On The Air Event” will be on May 25th 10am – 2pm… (Unknown Location)

Richfield Historical Society is having their spring clean-up on April 27th
They need help cleaning the grounds and redo their boardwalk. Please call 612.798.6140 or email richfieldhistory@gmail.com. If you can help. We use their facilities for all “Get On The Air Events!” Please remember this goes a long way to helping future club events.
Event starts at 9am- 4pm **Free Pizza** afterwards for workers.

March 20, 20019 RARC meeting notes
New business, Present and discuss proposed changes to RARC constitution and bylaws. Will be voted on at the April RARC meeting. GOTA on March 30, 2019 at the outbuilding at the Richfield Historical Society, 6901 Lyndale Avenue South, Richfield, MN 55423. All are welcome, bring a chair and dress for the weather. 10 am to 2 pm.
Please join us for the weekly Thursday evening net on the W0RRC UHF repeater at 6:30 pm.
Presentation on basic hand soldering seemed to be well received and we plan to have a hands on session in the future.

We are doing our spring Get-On-The-Air event this Saturday March 30, from 10am till 2pm.
No alcohol or tobacco allowed during the event.
We will be at the Richfield’s Historical Society’s back shed. This is open to the public at no charge or no formal club meeting.
Please bring your own snacks and chair.

Club meeting 3-20-19
To the RARC club members and friends of the RARC: Please join us for the Wednesday, March 20th club meeting at the Richfield Community Center at 7:00 pm, 7000 Nicollet Avenue south, Richfield, MN 55423. We will be presenting and discussing proposed changes to the RARC By-Laws to be voted on at the April 2019 meeting. Also to be presented is an introduction to basic hand soldering.

All Call Net March 14th
ALL Call Net Drill on the 14th
All members should try to check-in if possible. This is a test drill during our normal net time of 6:30pm this Thursday. The Net will be closed to our current members for the first part and then will be open to all, and finally open discussion. This can also be called a “Role Call!” Please follow the net controllers instructions carefully because it is a different then other nets and will be used in a major call out event in some form. Another note you must check yourself out on this type off nets if you have to leave.
Quick samples for this type of net responses are….
Simple check in “A0BC”, you have nothing to add to net but checking in “A0BC Clear”, You have something for the net “A0BC Traffic”, when assigned location and ready “A0BC inservice”, You have have to leave “Recheck A0BC” then wait to response “A0BC is going out of service, or A0BC is Checking out” finally wait for confirmation and any instructions, If you need to add new comment to the net “Comment A0BC”, Status of who in the net? “Status check A0BC”.
Please be more formal on this type of net and patient because of the volume people needed. We hope everyone has fun, but learn from this type of net.
We need Net or Roundtable controllers always!
A Open Nets (Is an over-the-air meeting.)
- Secure the frequency using your call and club call.
- Net Controller starts with rules of the net and how to check-in.
- Net Controller shares all club announcements and asks for any additional announcements.
- Net Controller starts taking checks-in with any short timers or limited access locations.
- Net Controller’s will repeat any announcements and/or relevant information.
- Net Controller will ID repeatly the club’s call and their call.
- Controller give thanks to City of Richfield public safety & RARC near the end.
- Controller gives out the club’s website for more information just before ending.
- Give 3 chances for final check-ins.
- The controller will announce the next net information and a summary of this net
- The end the Net Controller will clear with both the club’s call & their call then return the frequency to normal use.
A Closed Nets (This is very similar, but is restricted to a selected few and asked for required attendance.)
- Secure frequency or Frequencies with your call, name, and the club call.
- Give net rules & procedures to the closed net.
- Give any important announcements.
- Start taking check-ins by one of these possible methods. (Always answer any emergency check-ins)
- Off a list of stations only.
- Ask for check-ins with a reportable conditions.
- Ask for check-ins only related to the net.
- Ask for check-ins related to the given event only.
- Ask for check-ins at given location only.
- Break periodically to get people to respond.
- Repeatedly state the net rules & procedures and identify that you are doing a closed net and remind all others to standby until the net is complete please.
- Give updates and all relevant information as needed.
- Give your ID, name & the club’s ID often.
- Give thanks to RARC and the Richfield City Public Safety for the use of it’s repeaters.
- When done remind the people that the repeater is now open to regular amatuer use and clear using WØRRC call and your Call.
Subnotes: (Whenever anyone checks-in to a net they should always check-out with the net controller if they have to leave early.)
A Roundtables or Round Tables (A group of 3 or more operators talking about any topics.)
- Secure frequency using your call.
- Share a topic or topics to talk about.
- Invite others to join in.
- operators can come or go at anytime.
- operators should rotate with others giving everyone a chance to comment.
- We ask to share any club information.
- The roundtable ends when less then three operators remain.
Our nets and Roundtables are open to all. They start at 6:30pm every Thursday on our UHF repeater 444.475 with a tone of 118.8
If special events are going on we will make additional changes as needed.
Anyone can do roundtable at anytime because all it takes 3 or more people talking together. (aka a partyline over the radio.)
